You’re right – we’re not alone in this Universe. There is Someone who created you with a purpose. A personal Someone who understands your hurts, fears, joys and concerns. His name is God – the Creator of the entire Universe and the one who loves you and desires to have a relationship with you. But God isn’t like you and me – God is perfect and holy and has never done anything wrong. Unlike you and me, God has never sinned.
Sin isn’t something that is reserved for the most heinous people of this world – the Bible says we’re all sinners (Romans 3:23). We’ve all lied, disobeyed, cheated, stolen things and had a lustful thought. It is our sin that creates a problem between us and God. Our sin separates us from our holy, perfect, sinless God. And because we’re sinners and God isn’t, we cannot have a relationship with God. We’re separated from God (Is. 59:1-2). Here in this life this separation is real but changeable – but once we die, it is permanent. We will spend eternity separated from God in hell (2 Thess. 1:9). This is bad news. In God’s eyes payment for sin must be paid, and hell is where payment for sin occurs forever.
But in God’s plan there was always good news! God had a plan to take care of our sin problem: the solution was His Son. 2,000 years ago, God sent His Son Jesus to this earth to become a man (John 3:16). He lived a real, human life – but He was different from us in that He was 100% man and 100% God. So, Jesus lived a perfect life (Heb. 4:15). He never stole, told a lie, or had a lustful thought. He was sinless. God’s plan was to have His perfect Son die in our place…to pay the price for our sin (1 Peter 3:18). He willingly gave up His life on the cross. God placed our sin on Him. Jesus died on the cross (Luke 23:46), and was taken down and buried. He was in a tomb Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
But on Easter Sunday, the most glorious event in human history took place – Jesus rose from the dead (Luke 23:49)! He was seen by His disciples. The events of His resurrection were witnessed by His enemies (Mt. 28:11-15). His body was gone and His disciples were shocked that Jesus was now alive. His resurrection proved that the payment for our sin worked. Now our sin is able to be forgiven by God through the death and resurrection of Jesus. (Acts 2:38)
How do you personally receive the benefits of this payment that has been made for you? How do you start a relationship with God now that continues forever? Consider the following:
ADMIT that you’re a sinner (Rom. 3:23) You can’t receive forgiveness by God for your sins if you don’t believe you need forgiveness to begin with. In your heart, humble yourself before God and admit the fact that your sin is the barrier between you and God.
BELIEVE in WHO Jesus is and WHAT Jesus did (Acts 16:31). Do you believe that Jesus really is God? Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins? Do you believe that Jesus rose from the dead? You must trust in Jesus to save you – to fully rely on Him to forgive you of your sin and start a relationship with Him now.
CALL on Jesus to save you. Realizing that you cannot save you, only God can do it, call on Jesus to save you now (Rom. 10:13).
Maybe you’re unsure what to say. What matters most is the state of your heart. Maybe you could say something like this to God: “Dear God, I’m convinced that Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I trust in Him now to come into my life, forgive me of my sins and save me now.”
