Barry was saved at the age of 14, and later went on to New Brunswick Bible Institute , graduating in 1988. Amy was saved at the age of 5, and also went to NBBI for one year. Barry and Amy were married in February of 1989. They were introduced to Word of Life Canada in 1988 and were officially accepted on staff in July of 1989. For 14 years they served as the Word of Life Clubs missionaries for the Atlantic provinces. In March 2000, Barry also took on the role of National Director for Local Church Ministries, and in August of 2003, the Speck family moved to Waterford, Ontario. They have 3 children – Samuel, Emma and Grace.
Amy was raised in a Christian home and thus heard about the love of Christ from a very early age. After hearing the gospel presented in junior church, she knelt by her bed and prayed to receive Christ as Saviour at the age of 5. When she was 15, she attended Child Evangelism Fellowship’s Christian Youth in Action training school and it was there that she was challenged to have a growing personal relationship with Christ and rededicated her life to serving Him. Amy loves serving alongside her husband in Local Church Ministries and is passionate about seeing women and teen girls fall in love with the Word of God. Amy teaches a ladies Sunday School class in her local church and speaks to women’s groups several times a year.
They are temporarily fulfilling the area missionary duties for the Maritimes Region, as well as carrying out their national responsibilities.
