CAMP INFO & FAQ’s
What is Word of Life Youth Camp?
What kind of things do you teach?
We teach the Bible as the holy and inspired Word of God. All of our teaching times are age appropriate and chosen based on the needs of the campers that attend our camp. Click here to see our statement of faith.
Where is the nearest professional health care facility?
We are fortunate enough to be located 13 minutes from both the Meaford and Owen Sound hospitals. Parents and guardians are always notified if their camper is brought to a hospital for professional care.
Who are your medical providers on staff?
Because of our close proximity to the professional health care facilities, we are not required to have an RN on our staff.
Our medical person on staff at the very minimum will have certification in CPR and First Aid.
Who administers my child’s medication while at camp?
Our medical staff person administers all medication and keeps records of everything that is administered.
On registration day, we obtain written consent from the guardian to administer Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Gravol when appropriately needed.
All medication must be handed in upon arrival at registration.
Does your camp cater to food allergies and special diets?
Yes, we do. The food served is of the finest quality. It is prepared under strict supervision and a well-balanced diet is planned for each day. Our kitchen meals are peanut-free. However, some of our other activities could contain traces of, or have peanuts in them (Snack Shack, Pizza Party, Doughnut Party, Ice Cream Party and Campfire Treats).
Special arrangements for severe allergies can be accommodated by emailing our head cook, Kevin Nugteren, at KevinNugteren@wol.ca.
Can I buy snacks and if so, how much money should I bring?
The Snack Shack is open every afternoon and most evenings. Parents may place daily limits on treats or total spending. Clothing and some books are also available.
At registration, spending money is deposited in the camper bank. Each day the camper may go to the Snack Shack and spend money from their account. Counsellors will assist those campers not accustomed to handling their own money. All campers are strongly advised to deposit all their money at registration.
Leftover money is returned on Friday morning.
Where are you located?
Our campus is located just 15 minutes east of Owen Sound on Grey Road 18, and 2.5 hours northwest from Toronto. We are 3 KM south of highway 26 on Grey Road 18.
From Highway 10/6 South, turn right at the lights in Rockford onto Grey Rd. 18. Follow the road to the end, then take a left up the hill. Word of Life will be on your left in 1.5km.
If you are coming from Highway 26 east, drive past Meaford, ON for about 15 minutes until you see the sign for Grey Rd. 18 on the left. Take a left turn and continue on Grey 18 for 3 km until you arrive at Word of Life on the right.
For a GPS please use Latitude and Longitude Coordinates: 44.5631109, -80.7356865
Can parents see pictures of their child at camp?
During registration you will receive a contact card with a web address. This will allow you to view photos of your child at camp.
How can parents get in touch with campers?
Send your child(ren) mail by sending your letter to camp@wol.ca. Letters will be delivered at meal time.
How qualified are your counsellors?
Counselling is the most important part of our program. Our counsellors include college aged students from the Word of Life Bible Institute. They take part in two weeks of intense training to prepare them to not only care for campers, but also to help them with life’s challenges.
How closely supervised are the campers?
Do you give refunds if we come late or leave early?
Is there a monthly payment option available?
Can we bring our own paintball guns/paint?
What are the cabin facilities like and what kind of bedding should I bring?
